SCOTLAND’S second three-year National Dementia Strategy was launched in 2013 with the aim of continuing to improve diagnosis rates and post-diagnostic support, ensuring the highest quality of care and support for people with dementia at every stage of the illness, improving service response in acute care and supporting the growth of dementia-friendly communities.
The Scottish Government is now reviewing the progress of the strategy and a third National Dementia Strategy for Scotland will be produced in 2016.
This is an invitation for all interested parties across Scotland to comment on the progress of Scotland’s current dementia strategy, identify the gaps, opportunities and priorities and to help shape the direction of the new strategy to be launched next year.
We have arranged five, free dialogue events across Scotland for:
- people with dementia, carers (family members, partners and friends) to talk in small groups to discuss and share with others their views on the quality of services and how they can be improved to meet their needs;
- all health, social care and other professionals who may have a responsibility for implementing the strategy to discuss issues for implementation and action locally; and
- others who have an interest in this area (researchers, academics, public health professionals etc) to contribute to these discussions and talk about other aspects of Scotland’s overall approach to dementia.
The events will take place as follows:
- 11 November 2015 – Hamilton, Hamilton Park Racecourse – please RSVP by 30 October
- 20 November 2015 – Aberdeen, Park Inn by Radisson – please RSVP by 13 November
- 25 November – Fort William, Ben Nevis Hotel – please RSVP by 13 November
- 8 December – Stirling, Stirling Highland Hotel – please RSVP by 27 November
- 14 December – Dumfries, Easterbrook Hall – please RSVP by 4 December.
