THE editor of The Berwickshire News is to take on the additional role of editor at the sister titles, the Selkirk Weekend Advertiser and the Southern Reporter.
Phil Johnson will hand over the reins of editor of the Berwick Advertiser to Paul Larkin, editor of the Morpeth Herald and Northumberland Gazette.
As reported, here, on the holdthefrontpage website, Phil began his career as a sports editor at the Southern Reporter in 1998 before moving on to work at The Scotsman, where he spent ten years as a sub-editor and then three years at Scotland on Sunday, also in sports production.
In taking over at the Southern Reporter, he succeeds Susan Windram, who has joined Scottish Field magazine – as noted, here, on allmediascotland.com.

THE well-known Scots journalist and books author, David Torrance, is taking part in an ‘in conversation with’ session on Thursday, in Edinburgh.
Say the organisers, the Centre for Scottish Public Policy: “At this informal and inclusive event David will present his analysis of the transformation of Scottish politics witnessed in the General Election, and the challenges and possibilities that the UK and Scotland now face.”

GLASGOW and Barrhead-based community radio stations, Celtic Music Radio and Pulse 98.4, are among several dozen radio stations taking part in an UK-wide trial aimed at trying to find a more affordable way for ‘smaller radio stations’ to broadcast on DAB digital radio.
Says broadcasting regulators, Ofcom: “Radio listeners in ten areas around the country will benefit from new DAB digital stations as part of an Ofcom trial this summer.
“Ofcom today announced that around 60 stations will begin broadcasting on digital radio for the first time using ‘small scale DAB’. This new approach could provide a more affordable way for smaller stations to broadcast on DAB digital radio.”

BEGINS an announcement from The Scottish Farmer newspaper: “The Scottish Farmer, established in 1893, is undertaking an ambitious project that will see tens of thousands of photographic negatives, collected over the last century, professionally converted into a digital format and formally archived.
“The archive, sponsored by SRUC [Scotland’s Rural College], will be a definitive record of farming through the ages in Scotland, recording major shows, sales, farm features and important political events.
“The project is in its early stages and, at its completion, a full copy of The Scottish Farmer’s digital photographic library will be retained at Scotland’s Museum of Rural Life at Kittochside, near East Kilbride.”
