BEGINS a media release issued by the broadcasting regulators, Ofcom: “The tablet computer has established itself as a must-have device in just five years with more than half of UK homes now owning one.
“Apple’s iPad launched in the UK on 28 May 2010 and, alongside Android and other tablet devices, it is helping to shape the way we surf the internet, communicate and watch TV and video.
“The rapid rise in popularity of tablets means that over half of UK households (54 per cent) now have one, up from just two per cent in 2011.
“Tablets are proving particularly popular among people aged 35-54 with nearly two-thirds of this age group (64 per cent) having a tablet.
“The trend looks set to continue – 21 per cent of households currently without a tablet told Ofcom they were likely to get one within the next 12 months.”

SAYS an announcement issued by Police Scotland: “Police Scotland is introducing a new number for media to contact communications teams around the country.
“Since 2013, work has been ongoing to create a single communications team which supports local policing and corporate issues for Police Scotland.
“As part of that work, a new telephone number is being implemented for media contact with Police Scotland in order to improve access to communications officers around the country.
“Local policing communications officers are based in Inverness, Aberdeen, Dundee, Edinburgh, Glasgow and Dumfries, dealing with the response to operational incidents and supporting the priorities of Local Police Commanders.
“The corporate media team is based at Stirling and supports the Chief Constable and senior officers, national portfolios and strategy and policy issues.
“From Thursday May 28 the telephone number 01786 896000 will be implemented.”
